"A picture is worth a thousand words."

Even though we all know this saying to be true, it is very difficult to capture the detail of quality workmanship when directly photographing mirror finished surfaces.  It appears that viewing the image of another item (such as a ruler or scale) in the surface reflection, can give a much better visual description, as shown in some cases below.

Precision Machined Parts

Whether attempting to maintain a #32 rms machine finish or obtain a #2 rms mirror finish,

precision parts like these require diligent handling.

In the following pics the camera actually auto-focused on the reflections,
 and not the real item

Antique, Vintage Automotive

This 1933 Hispano-Suiza was immaculately restored by the talented craftsmen at Mozart Restorations under the keen eye and skillful direction of "restoration guru" Mike Hemus.  It debuted its' new "makeover" at the Concours de Elegance at Pebble Beach in 1992, winning "Best in Class".

Six years later, Mike Hemus and the team at Mozart Restoration would again make their mark, entering this stunning 1938 Bugatti type 57 SC Corsica Roadster, on behalf of John Mozart, in the Concours de Elegance at Pebble Beach and handily winning "Best of Show 1998".  As fate would have it,  the Hispano had been sold a couple of years prior to this event. The new owner entered it in this show as well, placing the Mozart crew in competition with their own prior work! It was quite a sight to see both cars in the "Winner's Circle" awaiting the final outcome.

Street Rod & Race Car

1971 Winner
  "Americas Most Beautiful Roadster"

Here's a take-back for all you old gearheads.  This is the first complete project that demanded the high level of detail metal polishing that would raise the bar for future AMBR show contenders. When Tony and Wayne Del Rio wanted the best, anyone who knew them knew it was not a good idea to tell them "NO".
